I’ve been following Gretchen Rubin’s challenge for 2025, which is to read for 25 minutes every day. I started the year reading nonfiction self-help books, but I quickly became bored. I needed to spice up my reading material, so I browsed my bookshelves of unread books and discovered Garfield. From there, I moved on to Calvin and Hobbes and became inspired to draw comics.
I know I should be drawing things from real life because that’s how you learn to observe light and shadow of an object. But comics just seemed less daunting and more fun. I looked up a tutorial on How to Draw Hobbes, and I think it came out alright.
